The coronavirus situation; a letter to VDS members

Dear Member

I am writing to inform you that, whilst social distancing measures have meant that our way of working at VDS has changed for the time being, the core support services we offer our members (including our Advice line, Claims, Membership support and VDS Training) are all available as usual. The only difference you may notice is that our phonelines will close at 4.30pm instead of 5pm for the foreseeable future, to ensure that we can maintain continued essential internal communications while our teams are working remotely.

In line with recent advice from the UK government on social distancing to help combat the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of VDS colleagues will move to remote working this week. Many VDS colleagues are already accustomed to working from home, with the necessary equipment and systems in place to support this. Over the last few days, this capability has been increased further across our business, and processes have been tested to ensure that we can still provide you with the level of service you expect from us. Please bear with our frontline colleagues in the short term, while they become familiarised with remote working.

The social distancing advice has put a stop to many face-to-face veterinary CPD courses, but VDS Training intend to continue to support vets, nurses, practice managers and the wider practice team via online training platforms. Since the coronavirus outbreak we have also moved to support our members by delivering the majority of our face-to-face courses virtually with excellent feedback so far. Whilst we are fortunate that much of our work can be carried out remotely, we are very conscious that this is not the case for most of our members. We fully understand that members are currently facing many significant challenges in their day-to-day work, balancing patient care with safeguarding the health and well-being of their own teams.

These are unprecedented times, but the VDS intends to continue to do what we have always done - to support and protect veterinary professionals, practices and businesses, allowing you to focus on animal health and welfare, where you are needed most.
