Charities benefit from members' generosity
Vetlife and IVBF receive over £50,000 via 2017 renewals donations
The generosity of our members during the 2017 renewals process has once again enabled the VDS to pass on donations to Vetlife and the Irish Veterinary Benevolent Fund (IVBF).
Geoff Little, President of Vetlife, said, ‘VDS donations play a vital part in enabling Vetlife to continue its work. The long hours and intellectual, emotional and physical demands of a veterinary career can be tough to deal with, and many in the profession will struggle from time to time. Vetlife assists the veterinary community through the Vet Helpline (a confidential, non-judgmental, telephone and email service, staffed 24/7 by a team of over 40 trained volunteers), through direct financial support, and through Vetlife’s Health Support Programme, providing confidential advice and treatment to those suffering from issues of mental health and addictive disease.’
IVBF Treasurer Hester McAllister commented, ‘The IVBF continues to provide support for individuals and families, and we are very grateful for your donations towards that support. The IVBF is committed to supporting its beneficiaries for as long as they need help, and your donations mean we can continue to offer various forms of financial support. For example, in 2016 we opened one new file and one file has been closed as the beneficiary no longer required IVBF assistance.’
